it’s easy for hobbies to turn into things we avoid because of the pressure we put on ourselves. but i promise, u have nothing to prove. if u enjoy drawing, draw!! it doesn’t have to be museum worthy. ur baking doesn’t need to be master chef worthy every time you do it. hobbies are hobbies because they make you happy and u enjoy doing them. there is no pressure for u to become a professional in everything u enjoy; enjoy it for the lack of pressure. try and let yourself participate in things without tying ur worth to the final products. if it makes you happy, anything that comes from that is worth it.

For all of my black cinephiles and history nerds out there, I feel like this is right up our alley. The website is super informative and user friendly, and not only has popular black films but vintage footage dating back to the silent film era.

“China produces more rainbow flags than anyone. My nightmare is there is a factory with nearly slave labor, forced to live within the factory complex and get up every morning and have to churn out more and more rainbow tchotchkes.” He says he didn’t create the rainbow flag in order for others to profit off of “rainbow junk”.
He is horrified by some of the things he has seen. He says, “Walking down Castro Street, I can’t pay my rent, but I see rainbow dildos in the shop windows and rainbow keychains, rainbow rings, rainbow candles and so on.” He said it is similar to when the best music ends up as elevator music. He is gratified that the power of the rainbow caught on as rings, but that power can be diluted by over-commercialization.”

To the girl who told me that not being on social media is like “shutting myself from society”, ….. she’s probably detoxifying herself from social media right now

I didn’t want to post this and I know its September 12th but people should realize that they don’t have to think binary about 9/11. You can mourn those who lost their lives and have empathy for Muslims and how the U.S. used 9/11 to initiate war in the middle east.

As someone who is from NYC and was around when 9/11 occured, I see the lasting negative effects that the attacks had on this city as well as the people around me. There are people who never received compensation for being in lower Manhattan the day of 9/11 and after while the cancerous debris is still looming. There is nothing to be proud of when 3,000 people lost their lives unexpectedly and thousands more have become sick with little to no support.

And those those who say things as “who cares about 9/11 when more people died in another catastrophe” you honestly don’t care about any catastrophe to begin with. You just see deaths as numbers. You’re just punching down at those who died in 9/11 or in any other unfortunate event because those who lost their lives can’t defend themselves.

Understand that a lot of people spoke out vehemently against the war. Bush Jr was and still is a very unfavorable president. The U.S. government and media just use 9/11 as an excuse to go to war and nonsensical patriotism. Those who died or were affected by 9/11 didn’t want to go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan especially since none of the hijackers were from Iraq or Afghanistan. The government and the media just used 9/11 for political gain and to spin a story and those who like to punch down at 9/11 just fell into media propaganda. Why not just direct your anger at the propaganda instead of the actual event

Also, making fun of 9/11 to side with Muslims is also out of touch. There were Muslims who died in 9/11. Muslims have nothing to do with 9/11. If a mass shooting occurs and the shooter was Christian, does the shooting relate to Christianity? Any extremists can be a terrorist and muslim extremists go against the teachings of Islam.

For any future anniversary of 9/11, just don’t watch the news and listen to New Yorkers who had to go through that day. You only have to think about 9/11 for one day. Us New Yorkers especially those who were there in lower Manhattan have to cope with that day for the rest of our lives.

I can’t force people to show empathy, just explain that their sense of comparing tragedies and death shows that they don’t care about such tragedies at all

“It’s lost in translation,” Diaz remarks, exasperated. “People won’t see the depth. At this point the only people that could afford a Basquiat are people he was targeting. Like, you’re the oppressor. They buy it out so that it becomes meaningless.”

“They wouldn’t have let Jean-Michel into a Tiffany’s if he wanted to use the bathroom, or, if he went to buy an engagement ring and pulled a wad of cash out of his pocket. We couldn’t even get a cab,” Torton says.
